From 0—1

Prior to its launch at SXSW in 2016, extensive research with a developer audience was conducted. It taught us so much about what this new audience type wanted versus the company’s usual banking or credit card customers—as one might have guessed, the asks were very different.

The team used those insights to shape the core principals for the design system that I was building in conjunction with UIs that would flesh out this B2B platform. The developer audience (consumers) wanted content that was more dense, and less whitespace. It turned out, that was a measure of trust for them. More polish meant more BS, more flash and filler than reliable content. So, finding a balance between great design and user trust was an imperative. Some of the easiest decisions were simply tightening the line height, and using a 14px font vs an airy line height and 16px font, as was common back then.

I was lead designer on this project, for that successful launch in 2016 at SXSW. In 2022 I returned to the platform as Director, Product Design to shape user experiences and expand the Partner Success offering—new UIs that gave partners additional autonomy, and sandbox environments to experiment with the available product offering.

The DevExchange has partnered with over 160 different business partners, helped with 340+ partner integrations of APIs and other digital products, and experienced roughly 200 MAU (measured by authenticated Partners, not individual team members).
